    Grease, fat and oil deposits can build up throughout commercial kitchen extract systems, creating a significant fire risk and reducing system efficiency. Regular inspection and cleaning help control this risk and support a safe, hygienic kitchen environment. HSL Compliance is BESA-approved and Vent Hygiene Register (VHR) accredited to deliver compliant cleaning to TR19® Grease standards.

    Grease extract system cleaning

    Our specialist teams provide comprehensive cleaning across the grease extract ventilation system, including canopies, filters, ductwork, fans and associated components. All work is completed and documented in accordance with TR19® Grease – the industry guidance for fire risk management of grease accumulation within kitchen extraction systems.

    Access solutions

    • Supply and installation of fire-rated access doors, independently type tested to BSRIA standards and compliant with BESA DW144 and DW172 specifications for sheet metal ductwork and kitchen ventilation systems
    • Supply and installation of builders’ hatches where required to suspended ceiling surfaces

    Filter and component replacement

    • Replacement grease, panel, bag and carbon filters
    • Minor remedial works associated with access and system condition

    How we work

    Our technicians use specialist mechanical cleaning equipment, brushes and appropriate cleaning products selected for the system and site conditions. Work is planned around site-specific risk assessments and method statements, with access requirements identified before cleaning begins.

    Following the clean, clients receive evidence of the work completed. Where TR19® Grease applies, this includes the reporting and verification information required to demonstrate the condition of the system at the time of service.

    We ensure strict compliance with health and safety regulations throughout, including Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.

    How often should an extract system be cleaned?

    Cleaning frequency should be based on risk and system use rather than a single fixed interval. Factors include operating hours, cooking methods, volume of catering, grease loading and the condition of the system.

    WFTT measurements and visual assessments help establish an appropriate ongoing cleaning schedule tailored to your operation. Once a system achieves TR19® Grease compliance, cleaning intervals can be optimized based on documented deposit build-up rates, reducing unnecessary downtime while maintaining full compliance.
