HSL Compliance offer a broad range of commissioning services for HVAC and water systems undertaken in accordance with BSRIA guidance, including pre- and seasonal commissioning, commissioning of domestic water systems, pre-commission of HVAC and side stream filtration.

    Pre-Commissioning Cleaning

System contaminants such as millscale, jointing compounds and building debris will inevitably be found in newly fabricated pipework systems. If allowed to remain in the system in sufficient quantity, these contaminants will make the system prone to blockage at strainers, control valves and small-bore heat exchangers. They may also initiate further corrosion and encourage the growth of micro-organisms.

    • All pre-commission cleaning of heating, chilled and cooling systems are undertaken in accordance with BSRIA BG29/2012.
    • Flushing and sterilisation of new building domestic water services is carried out in accordance with BS 8558 requirements.

Deposits on heat transfer surfaces in boilers, process heat exchangers or heating / cooling systems reduce their efficiency resulting in high energy costs or loss of production. By removing these deposits, maximum system efficiency can be regained.

Acid cleaning involves the circulation of acid at a pre-determined concentration and can be used for the removal of unwanted oxides and deposited scales from pipe surfaces.

The most commonly used acids for the removal of oxides from ferrous materials are inhibited hydrochloric acid, inhibited sulphamic acid or citric acid. Other chemicals may also be used for this purpose, depending on system metallurgy and design.

Stainless steel parts, equipment and systems require careful preparation before being taken into service for the production of food or pharmaceutical products.

All contaminants must be removed and the surfaces passivated. Validation tests and verification is carried out in accordance with ASTM A380 and A967 specifications.

    Side Stream Filtration System

Side stream filtration works by allowing the water and solids to pass through the unit which creates a centrifugal flow. During this flow process, solids attach themselves to the sides of the carbon fibre filters. Filters need to be checked periodically and changed where necessary.

Recirculating heating or cooling water systems frequently suffer from a build-up of solids and sludge generated by corrosion, scale deposition, bacterial issues and solids in the feed water as well as swarf and debris form initial construction.

Left in place, these solids and bacteria can severely impact performance and energy efficiency of a closed water system, block heat exchangers, provide sites for under deposit corrosion and a promote bacterial growth.

Treatment is carried out to BSRIA BG 29/2012 Pre-Commission Cleaning of Pipework Systems and BS 8552:2012 Sampling and Monitoring of Water from Building Services Closed Systems and BG 50/2013: Water Treatment for Closed Heating and Cooling Systems standards.

Our operatives are fully trained in side stream filtration treatment and in ensuring the safety of everyone whilst cleaning is carried out. All engineers carry the CSCS passport to safety and are all enhanced DBS checked to ensure confidence when working on site and in areas with vulnerable people.

Our side stream filtration treatment service includes:

    • Installation of side stream filter including hoses
    • Supply and fitting of filters
    • Periodic checking of filters
    • Changing of filters when necessary
    • Drain-down and removal of filters
